China’s One Belt One Road Initiative (BRI) is named for the “belt,” which refers to
roadways and train lines, and the “road,” which refers to maritime shipping lanes.
These two routes connect nearly 70 countries, spanning from Jakarta in Indonesia
to Rotterdam in the Netherlands. Together, the routes of BRI encompass some
65 percent of the world’s population, one-third of the world’s GDP and nearly a
quarter of all goods and services.
